Cooling Maintenance and Upgrades

home maintenance Central PASpring has sprung and that means summer is right around the corner.  It’s almost time to start thinking about firing up the central air to keep your family comfortable during the hottest days of the year!  In order to ensure maximum efficiency, there are some tips and tricks to follow for your central air system.

  • Change your filter.   With the amount of allergens spring can produce, it’s a good idea to swap out the filters before turning your central air on for the season.  These filters should be changed at least every three months for the best functioning.
  • Clean the vents.  A good dusting goes a long way when it comes to your air conditioning system.  If necessary, unscrew the vents and ensure that all dust and dirt particles are cleaned from the slats.  If you’re a pet owner, animal hair loves to hide in these vents so if you’re not feeling the breeze, your vents may be clogged.
  • Make sure you’re not blocking the unit!  If you’ve covered your unit, or just have things stored around it, it’s time to move them.  This is the part that pulls air into your unit, so you want to make sure nothing is blocking it.  This is also a great time to remove brush and leaves from underneath and around it.
  • Check your Freon levels.  For this, you’ll want to call an HVAC technician to ensure there isn’t a leak.  Some things are best left to a professional and this is one of them.

If you’re tired of leaking and inefficient window units or fans just aren’t getting the job done, the time is right to add central air into your life.  For all of the available options for cooling your home, contact us!
