It may not feel like it yet, but spring is right around the corner. Despite the newly fallen snow, we’ve got to begin making preparations for air conditioning weather, and caring for our HVAC systems accordingly. The fall and winter can be hard, not only on people, but on your exterior and interior HVAC units as well, so we’ve prepared a timeline for optimal performance.
March – During the month of March, especially considering there is still snow on the ground, prepare the interior of your home. Replace your filters, clean the vents, and make sure the thermostat is working properly. If your ductwork is a concern, scheduling a professional cleaning may be a good idea. This type of cleaning will make sure that the best quality of air is being pumped into your home when you finally can turn on the air conditioning.
April – In April, once the spring thaw has started, begin outdoor preparations. Clean the leaves and brush out from under your exterior unit, make sure there are no obvious problems with the system outside, and check any lines and hoses. Also, during this month, schedule an appointment with an HVAC technician to ensure that there are no issues with your indoor system, and that everything is in the proper working order.
May – As the temperatures start to climb, it’s becoming tempting to flip the switch and get the AC flowing. In May, do another clean sweep under the outdoor unit to remove any grass clippings or flowers from trees that could hamper the efficiency of the system.
After some professional inspections, filter replacements, and simple home maintenance, flip the switch and enjoy the clean air! If your system is in disrepair, you’re looking to upgrade, or you need to schedule system maintenance for the upcoming seasons, contact us!
