Bring on Spring!

SpringIt’s definitely getting a little greener around the mid-state, and we’re not just talking about all of the St. Patrick’s Day decorations festooning the area.  That’s right, spring is just a few short weeks away.  With all of the fluctuations in our local weather, it may seem like spring has come and gone and then come back again, but it is actually still winter here in Pennsylvania.  We know we’re not alone in saying bring on spring!

As with every seasonal change, there are certain tasks that must be performed in order to ensure that your HVAC system is ready for the switch.  Spring is the perfect season for Pennsylvanians to turn off their HVAC unit completely and live comfortably with no heat or no air conditioning.  However, if the last couple weeks are any indication, that may not be the case this spring.  So here is what you need to do to prepare for the coming season.

  • Filters – That’s right, change those filters. While this should be done monthly, many homeowners don’t remember this task, so they rely on the change in seasons to dictate when they do it.  With the onslaught of the allergy season, you may want to consider an upgraded filter that catches more of the pollen and outdoor elements that make you sneeze!
  • Trim and Sweep – Take a look at the plants and trees surrounding your unit. If they’re growing around or are hanging too closely to the unit, give them a quick trim to ensure that they don’t interrupt the flow of air.  Also, sweep out all of those leaves, grass clippings, or other debris that may have made its way under there during the winter months.
  • Check Up – It’s always a good idea to get a check-up for your indoor and outdoor unit as the weather changes, so call your technician today. Any problems that may affect your unit would be better detected now than in the dead heat of summer, and a licensed technician will be able to spot if there is anything wrong.
